01 · UNDERSTANDING

Understanding the condition or procedure.

PCOS involves hormonal and metabolic changes that can affect menstrual cycles and reproductive health. Online labels such as PCOD do not replace an individual clinical assessment.

PCOS is a hormonal and metabolic condition with features that vary between individuals. Irregular cycles, androgen-related symptoms and ovarian appearances need interpretation together; an ultrasound finding alone does not establish a diagnosis. Care may address menstrual health, metabolic risk, symptoms and reproductive plans rather than a single universal treatment.

02 · YOUR CONCERNS

Reasons for a consultation.

Symptoms can have different causes. These are reasons to seek an assessment, not a way to make a diagnosis online.

  • Infrequent or unpredictable periods
  • Skin or hair changes
  • Questions about ovulation
03 · SEEKING GUIDANCE

When to seek medical advice.

Arrange a consultation for persistent menstrual changes or other concerns. A missed period can have more than one explanation and should not automatically be attributed to PCOS.

04 · CLINICAL CONTEXT

Evaluation and management.

Review the pattern of symptoms and consider other explanations. Testing is selected according to the individual; management discussions should reflect health priorities and pregnancy plans. Questions about the purpose of a recommendation, reasonable alternatives and follow-up should be addressed before proceeding.

05 · INFORMED DECISIONS

Benefits, risks and limitations.

There is no single approach suitable for everyone. Discuss medicine suitability and monitoring, and avoid promises of a cure or guaranteed pregnancy.

06 · YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

Does an ultrasound alone diagnose PCOS?

No. Diagnosis considers clinical features and relevant investigations while excluding other explanations.

Are PCOS and PCOD separate diagnoses?

PCOD is commonly used informally. The clinician should explain the terminology and diagnostic criteria being used rather than assume two distinct diseases.
